"Nice place. No shop downstairs. Oughta have a a shop. Not a big one, just a shop, so people can... shop."
"No, nothing odd. Surgery, post-op, nano-dentistry, no sign of a shop - they should have a shop."

If I'm gonna stick with the 8 to 4 bedtime, I'm gonna have to move my bed out from under the skylight. ^^;
This morning I noticed a weird scratch on my shoulder that I have no idea how I got. It was all puffy, too, like it was a deeper scratch or something. I mean, I've had mystery cuts and bruises, but nothing quite like this...

Well, that nap was longer than I hoped it would be... ^^; Laid down a 8:45, and basically slept until 2. Probably had something to do with the fact that at a certain point whatever sleeping I do during the day becomes too light (no pun intended) because of the sun making me too hot. I really hope this doesn't mess up my sleep schedule too much... In any case, I think I'm gonna try to move my bed today or tomorrow, but then again I'm feeling lazy and don't really have the energy to do it right now, and I'm not sure I'll have that energy later either.
Also... I just checked my U of MN e-mail. I need to pay $1,207.50 by August 2nd to prevent my fall registration from being canceled, and there's no way I'll have that money in three weeks. Shit... If I can't go back to school yet, I at least want to take Japanese. I really don't want to wait a whole year to continue my Japanese studies. ><; Damn it damn it damn it...
Well, I'll try calling One Stop and see what I can do, I guess.

If there are two things I suck at, they're keigo and letter-writing. I already sent this off after having [livejournal.com profile] vulchu take a look at it, but if any 日本語ができる人 want to do some nit-picking, it'd be much appreciated.

Aaaand... I just realized I put my phone number twice. Yoku yatta ne. ^^;

Dad, Ann, and Alana are all leaving to go to Washington state tomorrow for FGC; leaving around 10 PM, Dad said. I know I've lived "on my own" for a year already, but I always had various levels of company, even at times it just meant other people in the building. I suppose I'll go so far as to say I'm a little uneasy about being the only one in the house for two weeks (they'll be getting back on the 11th), not so much because I'm worried, but I prefer to have more company than that. No boyfriend to invite over, either. ^_^; So... If anyone's interested in a sleepover, or just hanging out in general, at any time while they're gone, let me know. :) Also, I've been thinking I really want to go camping with someone since my family won't be doing a camping trip this year, so if anyone (with a driver's license) wants to go camping with me for a weekend, let me know about that too.

BTW, I swear Youhei and Kouhei are girls! What's with those character designs?

To Tori-chan: What's with you signing off so suddenly like that? You poop-butt. :-P So, yeah, I found a book on letter writing after all, but it seem's it's out of print. There was one copy on Amazon.com for $60, but the lack of the o-kane kinda nixes that one... However, they do have a book on writing e-mails, which might be of more use anyway. ^^; This site's pretty nice, too. :)

Oh man, sometimes I just have to say:
Fuck you Japanese...
If anyone wants an idea of what I'm talking about who doesn't already, here's a Wikipedia article on kanji for you. Or if you just want a taste:
In a number of cases, multiple kanji were assigned to cover a single Japanese word. Typically when this occurs, the different kanji refer to specific shades of meaning. For instance, the word なおす, naosu, when written 治す, means "to heal an illness or sickness". When written 直す it means "to fix or correct something" (e.g. a bicycle or a poorly written Wikipedia article). Sometimes the differences are very clear; other times they are quite subtle. Sometimes there are differences of opinion among reference works -- one dictionary may say the kanji are equivalent, while another dictionary may draw distinctions of use. Because of this confusion, Japanese people may have trouble knowing which kanji to use. One workaround is simply to write the word in hiragana, a method frequently employed with more complex cases such as もと moto, which has at least five different kanji, 元, 基, 本, 下, 素, three of which have only very subtle differences.

Why did my language passion have to be this language?

I'm having a bit of trouble now with when to use 上がる/上る(あがる) and 上る(のぼる). You know, when I say that Japanese is one of the easiest languages to learn... I guess I really did mean at the earliest stages only, and only when you're working from a set list of vocabulary/kanji that doesn't play crazy identity games on you. And it's all kanji's fault! If only the Japanese would have taken more care when they adopted kanji, rather than letting us end up with multiple readings for every kanji/kanji compound and multiple kanji/kanji compounds for every word...

You know, I'm actually really starting to look forward to this summer as an opportunity to work hard on my Japanese.
It's kind of scary, though... Knowing just how incredibly long of a road it is to master a language, and knowing that even as no native Japanese person knows the entirety of their language, I will only ever know maybe 75% of what the absolutely most knowledgeable of Japanese speakers do. I simply can't learn it all.
And that just freaks me out. ^^;
